Artist's Description
This is a bold painting with deep colors of an intense wildfire. The cooler blues and grays, show a night sky, which helps give the fire a glowing feeling. The contrasting warm and cool colors create a dramatic atmosphere. I painted this on a board that was covered with a shiny gesso that made the surface slick and added texture to the watercolor. This piece is framed in a black wood, 1" frame and is ready to hang. It's varnished and doesn't have a mat or glass. The price includes framing and free shipping in the US. About Tonja Opperman
I love making art, but my day job is wildland firefighting. I fell backwards into fire management after earning a degree in Forestry. Most of the summer, I travel to fire assignments, predicting fire spread and behavior one day or several weeks in advance with the goal of helping managers make good decisions about ongoing wildfires. I've held positions in Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, the Bitterroot National Forest in Montana, in Christchurch New Zealand, and Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. Fire behavior prediction involves fire science, knowing the 'art' of fire, and some computer wizardry.
